Real-Time Testing of Synchrophasor Communication

In this study, a software toolchain is developed to test a WAMS algorithm in real time based on open-source software and MATLAB. The setup consists of an Open-Source software Synchro-measurement Application Development Framework (SADF) working as an IEEE C37.118 publisher and a PMU PDC stream simulator (named PUPO) as a subscriber. The PMU data was retrieved in real-time and can be viewed in the PMU Connection tester. The developed ‘PUPO-SADF’ software toolchain is easy to set up and use. It is a hardware-free and ideal time-saving solution for the real-time development and testing of WAMS algorithms, as depicted in Figure 1.
